Stereotaxic breast biopsy
What does it consist of?
Mammography-guided stereotaxic breast biopsy is used to help locate an abnormality in the breast and is used to take tissue samples, which are sent for pathology studies. It is a less invasive procedure, leaves a very small scar, and helps evaluate calcium deposits or tiny masses that cannot be seen with ultrasound.
How to prepare for before the procedure?

Three (3) days before your procedure you should not take medications that contain acetylsalicylic acid such as: Dristan, Aspirin, Alkaseltzer, Asawin.

If you consume or receive any of the following medications, you must stop them three (3) days before: Anticoagulants such as Warfarin, Heparin, Coumadin, Clopidogrel, Persantin, Liquemine, Ecotrin, Plavix, Clexane, Iscover, Fraxiparine. Natural medicine such as vitamin E and vitamin C, Gingo Biloba, Garlic, Omega 3, EPA, Ginger, Ginseng, multivitamins with E supplement.

Five (5) days before the procedure you should not take anti-inflammatory drugs such as: Motrin, Advil, Feldene, Ibuprofen, Diclofenac, Postan, Naproxen, Voltaren, Indocid.

If the patient is hypertensive, DO NOT suspend the medication for hypertension and have a check-up carried out one week before the procedure at your care center.

They should not apply creams, lotions, deodorants, among others the day of the procedure.

Bring results of previous imaging studies, if they have been done (ultrasounds, x-rays, tomographies, magnetic resonances).

Do not have direct exposure to the sun, or a tanning chamber one week before the procedure.

You must be accompanied by a person of legal age, with decision-making capacity.
Please show up 20 minutes before your appointment, to carry out the admission process. -
General bathroom. You must come with comfortable clothes, without accessories or jewelry or valuables.

Use a bra without wires (it is preferred that it be TOP).
Instructions after the exam

Do not make sudden movements or force, to avoid trauma direct.

You can carry out the activities of daily life, always with the precaution of not requiring physical effort.

Keep a compression dressing and bra adjusted by 3-5 days.

The biopsy puncture site may present bleeding and the presence of a small hematoma (purple), to which local ice will be applied in order to reabsorb.

The micropore covering the needle insertion hole can be removed 24 hours after the biopsy.

In case of pain, consume the analgesics indicated by your doctor. In certain cases, antibiotic prophylaxis is prescribed according to the individual risks of infection. Please request your medication formula before leaving the service.

Avoid taking Aspirin for pain as it encourages bleeding.

Clean the evaluated surface with an absorbent towel, after removing the micropore (24 hours).
