Tomography

What is a tomography?

A computerized axial tomography, also known as CT, is a diagnostic technique that consists of an examination with ionizing radiation (x-rays), which produces detailed images of axial sections of the body. Instead of obtaining one image, as in conventional x-rays, it obtains multiple images by rotating around the body, thus obtaining a three-dimensional image.

Important: 2 contrasted exams should not be carried out in less than 72 hours. If your tomography has a contrast medium, inform the health service personnel if you have received a contrast medium in the last few days.

General instructions before the exam

  • If the patient is pregnant or suspects she is pregnant, she must inform the diagnostic aid service staff, since the tomography is contraindicated and will only be carried out if she has informed consent and for precise indications.

  • Patients who have a special clinical condition, have reduced mobility, are minors, must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

  • You must arrive at the diagnostic aid service 20 minutes or 2 hours before the exam, depending on the tomography that you are going to perform (the diagnostic aid staff will indicate the time that corresponds to you).

  • Medicines for basic diseases can be taken with a small amount of water.

  • If the test is contrasted and you are taking METFORMIN, you must suspend it 48 hours before the tomography and inform the diagnostic aid service personnel.

  • If the exam is contrasted, you must have a fasting period of at least 6 hours and have the result of creatinine, which is not more than 20 days from the date of the exam.

  • If you are diabetic please inform the diagnostic aid service.

  • Bring an order from the EPS or insurer in force and addressed to the Astorga Oncology Clinic, Salud Vegas headquarters.

  • Take previous exams related to the exam you are going to take.
