CARE AND PREPARATION
FOR PROCEDURES

preparation for mammography

What is a mammogram?

It is an X-ray image of the breast that is used to detect signs of early-stage breast cancer. It is also used as a follow-up to patients who underwent breast surgery, it can be at 6 or 12 months. The mammography performed at this time serves as a new reference for the affected breast and for future comparisons that guide the specialist in the process of healing, identification, progression, or relapse of the disease.

Instructions before the exam

  • Schedule your mammogram when your breasts are not tender or swollen to help reduce discomfort and to get good images. Try to avoid getting your mammogram the week before your period.

  • If you have had mammograms before, you must bring the results of your respective readings and the plates on the day of the exam. You must also bring results of other diagnostic images if you have them.

  • You can have breakfast normally.

  • Only a general bathroom is required; you should not apply before the mammogram: deodorants, antiperspirants, powders, lotions, creams or perfumes under the arms, underarm region or on the breasts, as these products leave residues on the skin that can create spots on the x-ray.

  • Come with a 2-piece suit (pants and shirt). The patient must attend with comfortable clothing (no dresses, jumpsuits, girdles, overalls, among others).

  • Inform the service's health personnel if you have breast implants, in order to make adequate images (there are more images that include with and without rejection of the implant).

  • Report if you have had breast surgery and inform the technician (in order to mark the scar).

  • Please, show up 20 minutes before your appointment, to carry out the admission process. Do not attend with a companion, if required (patients over 70 years of age, with cognitive disabilities, different dialect, reduced mobility), only one companion is allowed and he must be of legal age.

Other instructions according to the scan

  • After the mammogram, the patient must wait for a while, while the radiologist verifies the quality of the images.

  • Immediately after the mammogram, you can return to your usual activities.

  • The Clinic will notify the patient when the result is ready for delivery.

  • After the exam, no special care is required.

  • After the study you can continue with your normal diet.

Marcación 1
